Hubpages Freelance Writers Guide: Why do you wanna Write?
73Every writer has his or her own reasons to write whatever the field: articles, books, novels... And if you want to have some success at being a freelance writer on HubPages you must know why you want to write because sometimes writing can be a hard task and you must know why you want to do it.
Reason 1 to be a Freelance Writer
Express yourself and share the knowledge. I had some made up in many years of reading. Strange as it seems I don't like much writing; honestly I prefer much more to read. I begun reading at five years old, the Reader's Digest, and went on from there.
I guess I'm well over 2000 books read up to know, and it's only fault of HubPages if now my rate has slowed down. And I bought at least half of them, so my home, and my Mum's house, are pretty full of books. I arrived pretty late at writing, but honestly I find it extremely useful to express myself, share my little knowledge and above all to receive feedback from fellow writers.
So as a freelance writer at HubPages you might want or need to share what you know and express yourself.
Reason 2 to be a Freelance Writer
Followers and readers. Without you and your continuous support and advices I would have probably stopped writing and went on with reading. I'll always be grateful to Kirstenblog for being my first fan and one of my strongest supporter. Now, being well over 200 followers I can't say thank you to each one of you, I hope you'll be comprehensive with me, so I have to say a Big Thank You to all of you.
Special Mention: this is for those friends who commented on my last article "Time to take a rest". It's completely your fault if my rest has resisted just for a week, and you'll have forever a special place in my heart. It's my fault if I'm not so good at resisting temptations, but it's yours for having made it so difficult for me to resist writing again. Your warm comments would have caused the Antarctic ice to melt.
As a freelance writer also you need to have friends and readers not only because they read your articles but having the support of other writers comes handy when hard times strike, and they will.
Reason 3 to be a Freelance Writer
Money. I'll be honest, money plays its part but it's not the most important one. This means that I won't care anymore about scores and that given that time is a big issue, and that I'm sure my friends will understand me, I'll change my writing style and my behavior on HubPages. I'll go with my natural style of writing, that is short, concise and to the point. And if AdSense doesn't like it, well, at the end it doesn't matter so much to me.
Of course being time short, and feeling "compelled" to write and comment as much as possible on my friends' articles I hope you won't mind if my comments will be pretty short as a rule. It's not a lack of respect, but you are so many and you write so good that's the only way to go for me. As an exchange I won't mind if you do the same on my articles.
Good freelance writers on HubPages always try to comment on friends' articles.
The Greatest Reason to be a Freelance Writer
Help others to make their life better, a little at a time.
At least this is mine.
Some time ago I wrote about coincidences, and the common saying that they happen when God or other Higher Powers don't want to be recognized. Now, if God exists I won't go that far to say that He cares about a small grain of sand like me. But beside all the Hub Love I received these days, which has been enormous and wonderful, when I was writing my article on taking a rest a man named Chet left a comment on my article on Cancer and Self hypnosis.
A coincidence right? On the moment it was just a wonderful comment, honestly much needed, but after a while I begun thinking about it. I thought: "Strange that this comment has been written right now." So I begun thinking that it might be one of those coincidences which are other things undercover. It made me to reflect why I'm writing, and for whom I'm writing.
Unfortunately that man didn't left his email, so I don't know if I'll be able to communicate with him again. But he made me to remember the reason why I write and why I decided some time ago to help others as my profession.
So Chet you gave me the most valuable reward I could have ever wished and I hope one day to be able to say thank you so much, because you made me to remember why I write. In the meantime I'll do my best to help as many people as I can.
Thanks Chet. You are my Greatest Reason to be a freelance writer on HubPages.
Final Words
Here you are, these are my reasons to be a freelance writer on HubPages, yours can be different but knowing why you want to be a writer not only helps to focus your efforts but to stick to write in difficult times.
What do you think? What are your reasons to be a writer at HubPages?

Great question and thoughtful hub, Hypnodude! And, I think the question of why do it is an integral one for any writer who wants to refine their craft. Lovely subject for meditation - thank you!
Hello, hypnodude,
A great hub. I write only when moved to it. I have no particular message, just that perhaps what I write would ring true for some and in some way help them.
I am so glad there's no rest for the weary, as they say. Well, Hypnodude, what I'm really trying to say is that I'm glad you decided to come back and write-I have so much catching up to do reading your hubs!
Dude, you're back! Glad you can't stay away from the temptation to write because we enjoy your hubs so much. As for writing because we feel compelled to, like a higher calling, i agree totally. I know that writing here on hubs has not produced much (at least for me), but still, I love this site because it allows for feedback and interaction between hubbers. And like you say, we can each write to our own style.
Good to see you again and yes, God does care about the grain of sand, that's uniquely you, and nothing happens by coincidences. Now, go and catch some sunshine and spread it all around.
Hey Hypnodude, surprised to see you back so soon, but always a pleasure to read your articles. Just trundle along at your own pace and write what you want in the style that you want. There is nothing so tiring for all of us, than trying to write in a style that is not 'us'. We are all unique writers, and we all need to be celebrated for who we are.
You have expressed so many of my sentiments....I agree with all of them...the desire to help others with what you know...learning things for your self is one thing...but when you realize that you have learned things (either by reading or experience) you feel compelled to share...there is so many times that I googled something to answer a problem I have...it is paying it forward...and it is the sharing that makes us a community of people who care.
Hypnodude! You are so far away from being a small grain of sand. You are part of the light that exists in this world, and even better you know how and where to shine through your words. So glad to see you back! I truly enjoy reading your thoughts. =)
Lovely hub! Thanks for sharing your many reasons. I write because I have to, it's just part of who I am. There are so many things to discuss, stories to tell, feelings to express....
I write when I am inspired. And I read at other times too. We're the same --I started with Readers Digest too during those long summer days when I went home. :) I like the way how you write Hypnodude, it's easy to read and understand and remember. And yes, learn from. Don't stop writing okay? Hugs and blessings.
Nice work. I look at writing as a hostage situation. I really have no choice. Sounds like it can be that way for you also.
I enjoyed this hub very much. I'm glad you decided to grace us with your presence, it wouldn't be the same without you :D
I write mostly to let others know they aren't alone, and possibly brighten their day, or help in some small way, and I write for myself. If I make a few $ along the way, that's all the better:D
Welcome back my friend!
I write to make money primarily, but I'm not immune to the bug of it. If I get on a topic I like, it's great fun. Being able to express your thoughts, to have the floor so to speak, is so empowering! Many very successful people will tell you...do what you love, success will follow.
Writing is sharing for me. It's the way I like to share with others the things in my life that are important to me and I hope to find some resonance somewhere, some intimation that I am not alone. And every time someone comments on a piece I have written, I am confirmed in my connection with life. So I guess that's why I write. And I love it!
Thanks for this great Hub.
Love and peace
Tony
I write because it relaxes me! I love to express my feelings, I believe that there is NO better way to do that but to write it all down! I also do it for sharing, I like to share what thoughts I am thinking with others. Writing has always been a joy to me..puts a smile on my face!! :)
I have been writing since elementary school. The thoughts and feelings are there, and I feel like I'm writing even when I'm not and then I just have to actually write it down or that feeling will consume me.
Also, it's ok if your articles are short and to the point. It's ok if your comments are short and to the point and if you to respond to many at one time, in the same comment box. You gained followers really fast and that is a lot to keep up with.
Relax, we understand. And it goes to show you that we must be interested in what you have to say. Pace yourself, and best wishes.
great hub, and I like all the reasons you have stated specially you write for the readers and because you like to help, a writer who cares. I am so glad you are back again, Thank you hypno for your positive hub always, rated it up, Maita
Nice hub I like to write because it is new to me and I am having a great time creating a style for myself. I also love to read as well. Thanks for this heart felt hub. Great job as usual. Cheers.
hypnodude, I have always found your hubs very helpful, enjoyable and certainly worth visiting.Glad to see you back in the swing look forward to many more of your hubs my friend.
Hypnodude, I don't always comment on your hubs, but I always read and try to say a few words when I feel I can say something relevant. It's nice to see you continue to write here--I truly believe what you have to say is not only helpful, but important. Your expertise is singular and beneficial. I know you've helped others with your articles.
I am always looking for new ways to express myself. Drawing and painting took the lead for a long time, but writing has recently increased in importance. If I could write music I would probably try. Whatever means most accurately shares what's inside my head, well--that's what I will try to use. Right now, words and pictures are about equal as tools for self-expression.
Who knows what will allow me to communicate most clearly tomorrow?
Thanks for sticking around and sharing your vision.
Mike
I write because of my addiction. :)
Great hub. Thank you. I guess we write for similar reasons, but it still surprises me that I'm earning money for doing something that I wanted to do for years before realising that what I needed to do was actually write something! I'd been waiting for the right moment, then realised that that moment was NOW. Lovely hub, and loads of lovely comments.
I write my heart and soul, and I love reading others. Thank you! Blessings
I tried not to look, but I had to go see what Chet said. My heroes are all the people going through chemo and radiation. I hope you find Chet. And I love the opportunity to reflect on why I write. Thanks.
Well I must say you've once again hit the nail on teh mark, and it is true Google might come and go, but we are here for you. It is always my pleasure to read your writing, and I am so pleased you came back, and with a wonderful hub no less. I am happy you're back. You are a strong supprt to everyone here. You keep writing.
PS-- hope RedGage is treating you well..
I write to make myself happy but also in hopes that I will somehow offer something useful or helpful to someone. I would like to be able to touch someone in some way or to get you thinking about something in a new way. Great topic !!! Kudos to you.
Dude, I can't speak for anybody else but for me, I can't not write. You haven't been here for too long and believe me, once you've been here for a while it seems to all come faster. (So does the money)
Writing can take so many forms. I find myself just jibbering along, trying to write for ad clicks, then wind up writing something that seems meaningful to me. Maybe you should attempt to do both. It's all writing and writing is good for you. Write what you must and I can't resist saying, that when you write, suit yourself, Dude.
Wonderful Hub sir :)
Thanks for this article; I guess i write for many reasons too; the enjoyment is primary with me:)
A- I am not sure why I do it. But one thing I can be certain of is that I am glad that I found my way to 'do it' for had I not I would not have met such incredible people like you. Actually everyone that has commented on this Hub I could say the same for. I feel lucky and honored to be able to write and come across such an amazing group.
I have heard it said that if you do what you love the money will come (that is if that is what you want) until the money starts coming for me . .I can tell you I am going to continue to enjoy the ride !
bacio di bacio
i write to escape the problem and drama of the real world
It is just sooo nice to have you back. It sounds like you have done some soul searching.
This is such a unique hub. I absolutely love it. For me, in the past, writing was always a way of survival, sorting out the madness that existed inside. Today it has grown to be a passion. I just wish I had more time to write.
Awesome job and great to have you back,
Sage
Why do I write? It makes me feel better, stress relief when going through tough times, Hope of making a little money, the quest for learning, maybe more. Will be reading your hubs.
Glad you shared your reasons with us. It's great to have such loyal supporters! Personally I write because it is me, and writing keeps the thoughts from cluttering up the grey matter.
Rated up. Good hub
I agree with all your thought about the reason to write. I like writing very much, actually in blogging community like HP. The main reason is to share my thought and my opinion about something interesting. Another reason is give useful information to reader. With the big hope my passion in writing never end. But until now, I still learn and learn to make good writing.
I also write about the benefit of blogging, If you have time you can visit my hub. thank you very much. Good topic, my friend!
Warm Regards,
Prasetio
I like this Hub. Writing for me is an extension of my thoughts, feelings and life in the present and past. I want to be expressive in a way that helps a reader stimulate their thoughts as well. I have only recently begun my journey into putting down in typed form my life and past experiences and memories to share. I share a Fathers Legacy in my blogs and will continue for as long as I can type. Thank you for sharing why you write, I enjoyed this very much. I vote this hub UP
hypnodude:
Right about now you should feel loved. I have just joined the site and your hub is the first I have come across. I have found for most people that reading accompanies writing. If you like one chances are you like the other. However I am far opposite from you. I have a strong distaste toward reading. I have tried countless times to get caught up in a book and have the character world become my world, however it just does not seem to happen for me. I started writing when I was 5 years old. I wrote my first short story which was about a teddy bear who could not fall asleep. I have since then tested out different styles of writing and somewhere along the road lost the passion completely. Just recently I met a friend that has rekindled my desire to write and has inspired me to try getting back into it. So now here I am on hub trying to find my spot in this world. First hub to come soon I suppose. Thank you for this piece its got my mind working.
Mio carissimo fratello...
I am so happy to see you back, Bro! It is a truly amazing hub you came back with and, you should know how much love followers and friends alike feel for you! Let your Spirit shine, brother! If writing is your thing, just stick to it!
Rated up!, Bookmarked and Stumbled upon!
Warmest regards and infinite benedizioni,
il tuo fratello sempre,
Al
No matter your reasons for writing; I for one I'm glad you do!
I no longer write for any other reason than that I enjoy it; I find it relaxing, and I only write about the things that I myself enjoy with the occasional opinion thrown in for good measure when someone gets my attention by writing something controversial.
Taking part in the community is pure fun, but there are the times I've gravitated towards those with similar life experiences........... that can't be helped........... it's just what is
If I did this for the money, I'd be homeless! :-D Not quitting my day job!
Good to see you!
Kaie
Great Hub. I think writing will always be part of you, it's in your genes and lots of us benefit from the unique Hypnotic Hubs - especially the Sumo one. lol.
Thanks Chef, wherever you are. I pray for complete restoration of health for you.
Hypnodude, avere una buona settimana.
Regards, E.
What a lovely hub on this topic!
Writing for me is a way of expressing myself and sharing with others about things I love and know.
Now that I have found Hubpages, writing has also become an interaction with fellow hubbers. I really enjoy the positive vibration created here by this interaction with people like you and other friends.
Thanks for this hub hypnodude!
Oh...did I miss something? Were you sick or something? Sorry I didn't know. I hope and pray you are okay now.
I'm with you. I write to express myself; but I enjoy reading a lot more than the actual writing process. :)
I'm glad you're with us. I enjoyed this article and WOW! Look at all these visitors! You are incredibly popular.
I write for many of the reasons that you listen above- I actually did a hub on writing here (giving a little hub love to others)
I love this hub and everything that you said in here, glad that you are back :)
Rated Up and Bookmarked for safe keeping and re-reading...
Well, hypno, see now you've done it..you've written such an honest and compelling Hub, you've received loads of wonderful comments to which you have responded so graciously! I'm glad you're back in action as I also love to read your stuff. Thanks for being here.
What a beautiful hub, like you I dont know what it is about writing, I just love it, it is like some people cannot give up smoking I suppose. (mad) but still writing is addictive and i suppose we love to have our creations read and commented on good or bad so we can improve too.
And then of course we might earn some moeny why is it we are really excited about earning a few cents, yet kids turn there noses up if we say hey look there's 20 cents on the ground. Oh yeah what am I supposed to do with that.
Well really, they do not realise it does all add up but like with my writing it has taken years but we are getting there.
Anyway thats my excuse, I love to read and learn from other hubbers, we are never to old to learn new things. And I just write even though my hand aches but hey thats life, enjoy it while we can. And above all laugh about our misfortunes and appreciate our blessings like waking up each morning to a brand new day and knowing we are still alive. cheers
i am smiling from ear to ear...the narrative and images are what did it. very fine hub! :):):)
This is a marvelous article, so heart-felt and authentic in every way. Thank you! And thanks to M Selvey MSc for the referral to it on her hub. Her talent is enough to cause me to look into her referral and I'm glad I did!
I share with you a life-long love of reading, by the way. My parents packed me off to a little one-room-8-grades in the one room school for first grade when I was 4-1/2 because I gobbled up all the reading at home (and there was ample) and then ran off to neighbors' houses to explore their bookshelves. I smuggled a book and light under the covers in my youth bed with the high barred sides! I couldn't get enough! We're alike in that! But my eyes were poor from birth so I probably didn't read as fast as you!
I know why I write whatever I'm writing. I'm drawn to it. I don't know why I began writing because I've never not written - in my conscious memory. The first thing I think of to do with a thought is to write it down. I've always loved written correspondence more than spoken (well, at least the first half of my long life, before I really "found my voice"). I have several passions for self-expression - sewing, piano, painting, designing, sewing -yes and reading, too. - But none more intrinsic to who I am than writing, in many forms, poetry (in which I'm brief, that's how I can identify it as poetry!), letters, reports, instructions, starts of stories, passing thoughts, letters to God, my webpage - - and now, I've discovered Hubs. It just pours forth. I honestly think some muse is just using me to express what didn't get expressed during her lifetime. I have an idea who the culpit is, too!
Well - no one accuses my prose as being too brief. But in deference to your economy of time, I'll just stop this NOW.
Thanks again to you for you being YOU! I'm sorry I'm just now discovering you but glad I did finally!
Dude, I am back just to read more of the comments. Sometimes a hub can generate the most interesting dialogues and the string of comments just augment the article perfectly. I just remembered reading about a particular condition called hypographia. It is the drive to write endlessly. Now, some people wind up writing well, yet others are driven to write total drivel, gibberish that makes no sense. Just thought that was interesting.
Wow hypnodude, 2000 books you should be a scholar. :) I love to read as well, I have a library started with about 500 books. And you are right, it difficult to stay on top of reading and writing at the same time. However, I refuse to give up either one of them. :) I know if you hadn't already you will find balance between theses two loves. Thanks for sharing, my friend. Rated up and stumbled! :)
There is an old saying, Hynodude, that "there is a book in everybody." Quite obviously, in many people, myself included, there is far more than one book.
Now for some unsolicited-by-you evaluation.
It was once said by a famous writer, whose name eludes immediate recall, that "It takes about half-a-million words of writing to form one's particular style." You have a style, and it's good.
Now for the negativity: You need to punctuate better. You also need to proof-read your stuff more thoroughly before you submit it for HB publication. Tip: One way to ensure this is by reading it out aloud. This way you'll pick up on any blunders.
Hope this has been of some help, Hynodude.
Keep smiling...
I write because I can put my thoughts and words on paper, or on the computer, better than my mouth can articulate them. As a young person my mother encouraged me to write, but life happened and time slipped by and I never really did anything with it and sadly the voice within was silenced.
Major changes in my life have reawakened that voice and I've been writing like crazy. Why do I post on hubpages? Because I desire to become a better writer and I covet the peer review and encouragement from fellow hubbers.
I agree that there is probably a book or more in everyone, but not everyone chooses to write. I've had a little success at a new site called Fortitude
I just love to write...sometimes its to express something othertimes its just becasue I have an idea and want to expand it...wonderful article though. Thanks for all your hubs. Really useful guides.
Happy New Year to you hypnodude. You expressed and affirmed so well what writing means to me. I've been a "closet writer" for a while now but never really shared it publicly. I felt compelled to share a comment because I know it was no accident that I read your article. And I wanted to say thank you very very much for sharing your reasons to write. I don't have a Hub account yet, been toying around with the idea, but after this I will finally create one.
I wish you all the best and hope that you continue to write for as long as you are able.
Good, good and reason number 3 GOOD and thnx. I loved it for some reason!
This article is just awsome, now I know why I shouldn't give up
